This Too Shall Pass
21st March 2020
The first post…
Covid 19, first hit the scene, towards the end of Jan.
It seemed remote, it was, to quote, “a problem in Wuhan”.
Now two months on, this thing has gone, from something niche to mass.
Although it’s spread, just keep your head. Whisper,
“this too shall pass”.
Folk storm the aisle, as they stockpile: a Waitrose muesli fight.
What did we choose? Well, mainly booze. The nation’s pissed each night.
We’ve lost control, no toilet roll, a right pain in the ass.
We must get wiser, use sanitiser, and pray,
“this too shall pass”.
While home-based work, seemed like a perk, I’ve quickly changed my tune,
as I displace her personal space. I think she’ll kill me soon.
Sit in my room, and chat on Zoom. Productive? No. Alas.
There’s one relief, commuting’s brief. So sing,
“this too shall pass”.
And now school’s out, without a doubt, we’ll slowly go insane.
We feel quite cross, that teaching’s loss, will soon be Fortnite’s gain.
No more talk please, of GCSE’s, they’ve done their final class.
It’s Netflix time, as we all chime, each day,
“this too shall pass”.
Some still hang out. What’s that about? That helps it circulate.
Don’t be a dick, make people sick, instead do something great.
Distance yourself, for all our health, and show a bit of class.
Reach out. But stay, inside each day. And shout,
“this too shall pass!"
Right now it’s bleak, gets worse each week, the growth is exponential,
But it will end. Lets not pretend - our acts are consequential.
Be kind, show heart. Be close, apart. This evening raise a glass,
To be our best. To pass this test. And know:
This too shall pass.
